Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has lauded the outcome of the just-concluded by-elections, describing the results as a strong endorsement of the Kenya Kwanza administration while urging authorities to crack down on electoral malpractices ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking in Parliament on Friday at the media centre, Cherargei dismissed claims that the victory was marginal, insisting that the results reflected the will of the people and the outcome should not be downplayed.

"I'm surprised that several people are saying that it was a narrow win. A win is a win in politics." Cherargei said.

He also reiterated concerns about the high cost of elections in Kenya, calling for a national conversation on how to make the process more affordable and transparent.

"Our elections are still expensive, and we must sit as a country and see how to make our elections less expensive. I appeal to IEBC, DCI, and ODPP to move with speed and arrest anybody who participated in any matter of electoral malpractice and should be brought to book," he remarked.

The Nandi Senator also firmly condemned incidents of violence and intimidation witnessed during the by-elections, referencing an altercation involving a former Attorney General, Justin Muturi, in Siakago, Mbeere North.

"We saw the former attorney general attacking the voter; that was an assault, and anything that happened anywhere, they should be brought before the law. It's a big test, and it should act as a clarion call for the authorities as we prepare for the 2027 general elections," he said.

Cherargei, an ardent supporter of President Ruto, has termed the by-elections a national verdict on the government’s performance, framing the results as a show of confidence in President Ruto’s leadership.

Cherargei has hit hard on former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, for failing to secure a parliamentary seat, saying that the broad-based government is becoming stronger.

"It's clear the agenda of President Ruto resonates very well with the people. Yesterday was a referendum across the country in terms of the broad-based government. The referendum was concluded yesterday, and Kenyans have absolute faith," he remarked.

He took a swipe at the opposition, arguing that the results reflected widespread dissatisfaction with their political conduct, saying, "Our opponents should learn. He lost miserably. We need to be serious, and this shows the results of demeaning and insulting other leaders and undermining them do not work. Mbeere North by-elections confirmed that the people of Mlima are solidly behind the government."

In addition to political reflections, Cherargei commended President Ruto for commissioning the Mau Summit–Rironi Road, calling it a transformational milestone for the region.

"We thank the president for coming up to open the Mau Summit Rironi road. This is a miracle, and our people will enjoy the usage of the road. We will never get stuck again in traffic snarl-ups," he said.

The vocal senator has finally urged investigative agencies to act swiftly on any electoral misconduct cases and called on political players to uphold integrity as the country heads toward the 2027 polls.
